San Fran - the first 24 hours
We had so much fun on our last RV trip in the Southwest, we decided to go on another adventure to Northern California and Oregon. After much debate about whether or not we should go during this COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to take our chances. We were a bit nervous flying on an airplane, but we wore our masks, used lots of wipes and hand sanitizer, and said a prayer! On Friday, June 26th we left Atlanta for San Francisco...
The airport was not super busy, and our flight was probably 60% full, considering Delta was not selling any of the middle seats. That gave us a little comfort! The flight attendants came by twice with a bag of snacks - a water bottle, almonds, biscoff cookies, a napkin and a tiny thing of Purell, all in a ziplock bag. It was an uneventful flight!
After landing, we got to our AirBnB, unpacked and crashed, since it was after midnight at home.
Saturday, June 27th
After waking up early, Owen and K walked to get coffee (a decaf mocha for K) from Peet's and check out the view of the Golden Gate. It was a bit foggy! P and Mer walked to a local convenience store to get some kitchen staples. After breakfast, we walked to Golden Gate Bridge Bike Rental to get bikes for the day. We stopped at Lucca Delicatessen for to-go sandwiches and headed to the bridge. The bike ride was SUPER windy! With lots of other bikers, it was a bit hard to navigate, but it was a fun adventure.
We had our sandwiches from Lucca (SO GOOD!) in the Presidio (on Owen Street) and then biked by the Palace of Fine Arts. From there we trekked to Lombard St, Ghirardelli Square (grabbed ice cream and chocolates), Fisherman's Wharf and eventually ended up at Pier 29 with a great view of Coit Tower.
We then stopped by Owen's old stomping ground - Shanghai Kelly's - only to find it closed and boarded up. One of the many businesses impacted by this COVID mess.
We returned our bikes and walked back to our "home" to rest our weary legs! P wasn't tired enough, though, and suggested we walk to pick up our pizza dinner (1.7 miles and HILLY) from Golden Boy Pizza. We could only order a half sheet (instead of by the slice), so Owen and Mer had a beer while we waited on it (K and HB stayed at the AirBnB to chill). Then walked back home! Was a 2-hour endeavor, but the pizza was really good - we highly recommend it!
